ROAD TRAIN TO ALICE SPRINGS, AUSTRALIA

Ahead are pictures from Darryl and Pam Kratzmann of Australia.  They sent the following information about their ROADTRAIN trip:

Two years in the planning, but boy was it worth it.  At 10 pm on Friday 19 August, 2005, the Road Train fired up at Rocklea, with a large spectator gallery, heading off to Alice Springs in the centre of Australia.

We had some problems, first being pulled over by the police to view the paperwork, but all was in order and then going up the range the prime mover did a diff and we had to call in the big guns…BARNES AUTOS (Towing Service) to bring us up the big hill.  15 hours later, with two new diffs and a lot of hard work, they were back on the road and by Monday had caught up with the other travelers heading northwest to the Alice.

No other hitches occurred, and as they say the rest is history.  A three-week round trip and almost 4,000 miles of road.  Cost for the roadtrain was $9,000 (Australian) in diesel fuel.  A big ask but a memorable adventure.

We hope you enjoy the photos.  If you have any questions, please email us!

     Regards, Darryl and Pam
